Fact #17: It's Father's Day.

For as long as I can remember I have never been close to my father. Probably because I am so similar to my mother. The only thing my dad and I ever shared was our gifted voices, and the few times we were forced to sing together for the public. When I was young, he worked nights so he was never home. Eventually he divorced my mom and moved to a new town when I was about eleven. We were again, forced to visit him. And now, he barely ever contacts or visits us. In the past year he's only contacted me three times; one of those times was to inform me that he was moving to New York the next week. I often compare my relationship with my father to the song "Cats in the Cradle" by Harry Chapin (which ironically, is one of his favorite songs/singers).

Today is Father's Day. It was sweet to see everyone's tweets and statuses about how wonderful their father is. I wish I could say the same about mine. I wish I had that "Daddy's Little Girl" bond with my father that so many girls out there have. I hope someday that whoever I marry will be the best father to my child. That's all I want.

On a positive note, I must say, though, that I am blessed to have a Ken as my step dad. He really is the closest thing I've ever had to a dad. While we have hit a bunch of bumps in the past, I'm so glad that he married my mom eight years ago. He has been one of my biggest supporters, and would do anything for me.

Happy Father's Day.
